Check out this great blog post: 50+ Killer Online Resources for Computer Science Students. The title's a bit over the top, but it does have a good collection of links aimed at CSS/CS students dealing with general advice, money, organizations, careers, AI, programming, tools, etc.

Seattle CodeCamp January 26 and 27

Be sure to spread the word about the Seattle CodeCamp January 26 and 27. It's shaping up to be a programmer-powered tech-fest par excellence. And don't forget - it's free. Considering how much most conferences cost, this is quite a plus. The number of sessions is increasing daily. As would be expected due to the gravitational pull of our friends in Redmond, most of the sessions have a distinctly Windows-developer focus. Some that I'm hoping to hit:

Rethinking Unit Testing: xUnit.net
An Introduction to Windows Communication Foundation
Java-based web-apps with the Eclipse Rich Ajax Platform
Static Analysis
F# - hey, everybody's talking about, it must be cool
Making JavaScript less painful

I'm hoping to see more Java-centric sessions as that seems to be the way I'm drifting. Sigh. There's just not enough time to learn and play with all these cool toys.

Cheaper textbooks

I spent some time looking for a better deal on my textbooks on numerous sites and eventually I stumbled upon one that was significantly cheaper than the rest: Valore Books. I got what I was look for quickly and in "New" condition, for 50$ when it lists for $110.

Valore Books is a "marketplace" style site, a community of individual sellers, so while my experience was excellent, I can't promise it would be the same for you. But, it is definitely worth checking out.
